    • Far cosmic muon detector simulation:
      • Detector events produced from Jim Musser's flux with charge ratio mu+/mu- = 1.25
      • The necessary flux file is located in nfs: /minos/data/flux/downspectra_byface.rz, which should be copied locally and linked to daikon_<version>/labyrinth/ephemera/fluxdata/mu_downspectra_byface.rz in one's local daikon build
      • Events generated with daikon_02 executable:
        • Support for FFREAD card HEPEVTFN for filename and $HEPEVTPATH path rather than requiring local hepevt.dat file. Saves filename (but not path) in FluxWgt table.
        • FFREAD card ADMUE - force uniform energy on downward cosmic rays; value is upper limit. (Default = -1, negative values mean use Jim's histograms).
      • CosmicMu sample has theta-dependent energy spectrum with azimuthal distribution reflected about x=0
      • CosmicLE sample has uniform energy spectrum on 0 - 20 GeV with angular distribution pulled from Jim's flux
      • CosmicVLE sample has uniform energy spectrum on 0 - 2 GeV with angular distribution pulled from Jim's flux
      • Each subrun file contains 10,000 single muon events (the current simulation is incapable of producing multiple-muon events)
      • Produce subruns 0 - 9 for each run
    • Far detector mock data samples:
      • 2.5e20 POTs/subrun (L010185) & 1.6e19 POTs/subrun (L250200)
      • Production goal is 100 subruns per run for each beam
      • FD MDC samples DO NOT have any systematic shifts applied as it was agreed by the interested analysis groups at the time they were generated that systematics could easily be imposed at analysis-time via JobCModule. FD MDC is oscillation-only.
      • Each run number corresponds to a single set of oscillation parameters, possibly including sterile neutrinos, across both L010185 & L250200
      • The true input oscillation parameters were revealed at the August 17, 2007 NC meeting for Run 0001 & 0003:
        • Run 0001: Δm2 = 2.73 × 10-3 ev2, sin22θ = 0.9925, fs = 0.00
        • Run 0003: Δm2 = 3.78 × 10-3 ev2, sin22θ = 0.7580, fs = 0.25
      • The true input oscillation parameters for Run 0002 have not yet been released
      • The nubar group requested 4 additional daikon_05 sets of 100 experiments with a model that included nu → nubar oscillations. The true input parameters were revealed by email to Jeff Hartnell & Donna Naples on August 21, 2008 after the analyses were posted to docDB (docs-4955, 4950, & 4952)

      • daikon_04 MC includes bugfixes to NEUGEN (v3.5.5), uses Bfield (170-172), Bfield in the air gaps, and new rock material.

      • Important Note on Signal Enhanced Overlay Samples
        A critical thing to remember when processing these files is that there is one-and-only-one usable 'signal' event per snarl. It will be the first one in the StdHep or NeuKin list (not necessarily the first in time). The overlay procedure uses standard detector files as 'background' so it is possible to find other "[Signal]" events, some of which might be in the fiducial volume, but if you accept them then you're going to skew things:
        • POTs account will be wrong (small effect, probably)
        • Because of the way standard detector event files are used in the overlaying processing -- think wrapping around again and again -- you are liable to oversample that one event's topology. That same (signal in the 'detector file') event will probably be found multiple times in an overlay file (only the true 'signal' events are used but once).

        Standard Monte Carlo with the addition of:

        • Coil collar included in ND spectrometer planes
        • Switch to turn on/off inverse muon decay
        • Inserted code to allow printing dE/dx tables to the hr file

    • Staged files (tar files of .tar.gz of .fz_gaf) are located at /pnfs/minos/stage/<user name>/
    • Current flux files (v19) are located at /afs/fnal.gov/files/data/minos/d146/gnumi/v19/ also /minos/data/flux/gnumi/v19
      • Download the entire set of v19 flux files to a suitable local directory
      • It is suggested that the flux files be copied to individual nodes where execution of gminos actually takes place for up to 50% savings in time over reading the files over the network during execution
      • Beware of le010z170i/job16! The paw file appears to be incomplete. If you have it, delete it.
      • The FD cosmic flux file is located in afs: /afs/fnal.gov/files/code/e875/sim/labyrinth/ephemera/fluxdata/downspectra_byface.rz, which should be copied locally and linked to daikon_<version>/labyrinth/ephemera/fluxdata/mu_downspectra_byface.rz in one's local daikon build
      • The input stdhep files for ND cosmics are located in afs at /afs/fnal.gov/files/data/minos/d196/daikon_nearmu_stdhep/ & /afs/fnal.gov/files/data/minos/d196/daikon_nearmu_stdhep_1/ , which should be copied locally if you need them
    • MC Production software bundle is located at /afs/fnal.gov/files/code/e875/sim/daikon_versions/*.tar.gz
      1. Binary files will only run on Unix/Linux installed on PC machines
      2. Download all the tar.gz files from afs. This should include archives for scripts (i.e. daikon_scripts.tar.gz), the executable (i.e. daikon_03.tar.gz), geant (i.e. geant_dir.tar.gz), and neugen (i.e. neugen3_v3_5_0.tar.gz). The locations of these wil need to be input toyour setup scripts (see below).
      3. Unpack the files in a suitable local directory
      4. Do cvs update -dA in the daikon_scripts directory
      5. In the (daikon_03+) $BMAPPATH directory, do cvs update -r HEAD bfld_170.dat bfld_171.dat bfld_172.dat to grab the new ND Bfield maps
      6. Using setup_fnal_bundle.sh as a template, create a site-specific version setup_<institution>_bundle.sh . This script is site-specific setup pointing to flux files, etc.
      7. Using run_umn.sh as a template, create a site-specific version run_<institution>.sh . This script manages creating log files, actually executing gminos_jobs, checking that gminos executed without crashing, and local staging or transferring to fnal the output.
    • One is expected to be able to understand and use their local batch system. Kregg has some experience with Condor @ UMN and can supply some scripts which could be a start.
    • Offsite-produced files should be staged to minos26 instead of uploaded directly to pnfs (Contact K. Arms at arms@physics.umn.edu to get access and instructions)
    • Staging files at FNAL:
      • Files are staged to minos26 using the mindata account
      • Each offsite user has their own space under mindata@minos26:STAGE/<username> where staged fz_gaf archive files should be sent. Reroot files should go to mindata@minos26:STAGE/<username>/mcin/far/. There is a corresponding log directory one level below where gminos, reroot, and job logs should be sent.
      • In each user's STAGE area, there is a file named NOIMPORT. This file turns off cleaning (sending staged files to enstore) of stage files from that user's area. It should be renamed to MCIMPORT to turn on cleaning.
      • It is very useful if the offsite user utilizes an ssh-agent, uses a full installation of kerberos (or at least copies kerberized scp and ssh, kinit, executables and k5config scriptfrom an FNAL node for offsite use), and uses a kerberos keytab/archiver so that job scripts may initiate a transfer/login to minos26 without intervention while security is maintained.
      • The STAGE is scanned every 6 hours using ~mindata/mcimport, which zips several fz_gaf archives into a ~2GB archive, copies it to enstore, then comes back (in 6 hours) to clean space on minos26 after stored archives are verified to be in enstore.

    Reconstruction Notes:

    • Note that reconstructed ntuples and candidate files may be concatenated from several generated subruns, therefore end-users should be very careful in POT accounting
