Using the mysql client
The most useful program that comes with mysql is the mysql client. It is started with a command like:
prompt> mysql --user=root --password=whoopee --host=taghairm.spa.umn.edu
Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Commands end with ; or \g.
Your MySQL connection ID is 1 to server version 3.23.32
Type 'help' or '\h' for help. Type '\c' to clear the buffer.
The first thing to do is tell it which database you want to use:
mysql> use offline
After that, you can enter any SQL you please. To see the tables in the current database, type 'show tables', to see how a particular table is structured, use 'desc tablename'.
