First Steps: Checking the ROOT installation
If typing:-
root
does not start ROOT, check the following:-
- Ask your local MINOS Mentor, or system manager, if ROOT has been
installed. If not, and you cannot persuade anyone else to do, you will
have to. Actually it is very simple as the ROOT team provide binaries as
gzipped tar files for most platforms:-
- Go to the ROOT Home Page
and from there click on "(download latest version)" phrase of the
"Status & Availability" line.
- Select the appropriate version and transfer it.
- Follow the instructions provided to unzip, untar and install.
- Check that the ROOT environmental variable ROOTSYS is defined.
This should contain the top level ROOT directory.
- Check that the ROOT binary directory:-
$ROOTSYS/bin
is included in your PATH environmental variable.
