The purpose of this primer will be to give a strongly focused step by
step work program to get started. Of course there is nothing to
stop you randomly wandering anywhere over this web and beyond into the
wonderful infinite world of GRID documentation, but if you would
prefer to take the first few steps roped to an instructor, then you
have come to the right place.
- Remember try to resist the temptation to follow links beyond
the ones listed here!
- Start by reading all of MINOS
on the GRID: Documentation to get a feel of the purpose of this
web, its organisation and notation.
- Read Tutorial:
GRID Overview which will give you an idea about some essential
GRID concepts. It's O.K. to follow links on that page, but no
further!
- Before you can try anything else you will need to join our
group. This will take several days at least as it involves a face to
face meeting with someone who can then confirm you identity to the
authority who will issue you your GRID certificate. To start this
process see Administration:
User Administration and any links directly or indirectly from
there that are necessary.
- While the process of obtaining a certificate is underway you
can look at the following tutorials, in this order:-
- Preparing and managing proxies
- Submitting jobs
- Storage Elements and The File Catalogue
- Interrogating the GRID
but don't wander off in to the Reference stuff yet and of course you
cannot follow along until you have your certificate.
- If you haven't already, now is the time to check out the glossary
- Once you have got your certificate, go back through the
tutorials again and try things out.
- Right, now the final push to the summit: running loon jobs!
Follow the section
Grid Scripts
At this point it's time to lift the embargo on following links into
the outer web but beware: it's a bottomless pit!
- Right, you are on your own, go explore and good luck!
