Administration: User Administration

This section deals with the steps a user must take to join the MINOS VO (Virtual Organisation) and get ready to start running jobs.
  1. All users must agree to and abide by the Grid: Acceptable Use Policy.

  2. From the computer you normally use, choose a @ Supported Browser. Currently I (Nick) am using SeaMonkey 1.09 (Mozilla), but others have successfully use IE

  3. Import the CA ROOT certificate. This tells your browser to trust anything that our CA (Certification Authority) sends it.

  4. Obtain a Grid User Certificate. This certificate is your proof you are who you say yor are. It is Digital Signed by our CA so anyone who trusts our CA will also trust you. Your certificate is a vital document Make sure you protect it

  5. Register Your Grid User Certificate with the MINOS VO. This makes you part of the MINOS VO.

  6. Convert Your Grid User Certificate. You should by now have a Grid Certificate as a .p12 or .pfx which is the PKCS12 format and the normal one for browsers, but to make proxies you need to create a .pem version using openssl.

  7. Install and Check Your Grid User Certificate on a UI. Having converted your Grid Certificate to a PEM version, you need to install it on a UI (User Interface) and check that it is O.K., so that you can create proxies in order to run jobs.

  8. Renew Your Grid User Certificate. Certificates don't last forever, in fact they last just one year, so eventually they must be renewed. Make a note when yours expires and renew it a few weeks before it does.

  9. Consider joining the @ GridPP Mailing List UKHEPGRID.

  10. Consider joining the GridPP users list by sending an email to:

    jiscmail@jiscmail.ac.uk

with JOIN GRIDPP-USERS in the mail body and a blank subject. This list is distinct from the UKHEPGRID list and is intended to provide support for users of the UK Grid by providing announcements of an operational nature which are not appropriate for UKHEPGRID.
