Numi Extraction System B at Rec


Interactions between the NuMI extraction system stray magnetic fields and the Recycler have been studied. In particular, the magnetic fields from extraction elements at the recycler have been estimated. In addition, a rough picture of the recycler elements in the region of the extraction system has been made.

Note that the fields presented here are Very Approximate. The position of the recycler with respect to the NuMI extraction magnets have been scaled from drawings - often just using ratios to get the dimensions. Further, the details of the positions of elements of the recycler are rough estimates from incomplete drawings along with estimates of items not included in the drawings. USER BEWARE !

The magnetic fields from the extraction line are primarily those from the EPBs. There are quadrupoles in the line, but based on measurements of the fringe fields around the quads, they are not expected to pose a problem. The fields are tabulated below.

The third plot shows magnitude of the field. The symbols attached to the various fields are D for EPB Dipoles and Q for quads.

Note that the horizontal scale extends further downstream in this plot of the magnitude of the magnetic field.

The elements noted above are P/I for pumping and instrumentation insertion, Grad for Gradient Magnet, and Pipe for beam pipe.
