Absorber - lowered & staged 3 Blu Blks and 1 B Blk.  Weld 40" extensions onto core pipes, required to connect them to the RAW (RadioActive Water) cooling system. Full connection will occur after most block stacking is completed - just the extensions for now.

2 Planes installed, cabled and light-leak checked: 74 in the AM & 73 in the PM.

Plane 74's location on the stand is close to a junction of the supporting I-beams. It was observed that the plate bolting this junction was not holding it rigid, and the Support Structure was "drooping" (bolts had not been properly tightened at installation of the Structure). Crew obtained support columns from the now empty New Muon stands, and hydraulic jacks, to push the I-beam junction back into place and re-bolt the Support Structure. All consulting engineers happy with the process. Plane 73 was installed after this repair was completed.

Absorber - lowered & staged 1 Blu Blk and 1 B Blk.  Delivered 1/4" steel plate for setting along steel core.

Absorber - 2 Blu Blks lowered and staged. Setting side Blu Blks and filler steel.

Afternoon - sump cover plates removed, and Sump #2 re-installed, & cover plates replaced.

Evening shift - pipefitters working on installing piping for backup diesel pump.

Absorber - lowered and staged 2 Blu Blks and 2 B Blks. Complete setting 2 layers of side Blu Blks, and filler steel between side blks and steel core. A total of 64 Blu Blks now set in place.

Pipefitters continue on evening shift.

Absorber - lower & stage steel plates which bridge over the top of the core. Lower & stage 3 B Blks.  Work on grouting side Blu Blks, and setting B Blks along sides - east side complete (12 blks), west side has 7 of 12 set.

Pipefitters continue with backup pump installation on evening shift.

Absorber - lowered more B Blks and set them along the sides - all in place but 1.  Set shims on side Blu Blks, measured to level and welded in place.

Absorber - set last side B Blk; side concrete now complete. Lowered & staged 4 Blu Blks. Begin grout on top od side Blu Blks - grout fills entire space to level of the shims (1-2 inches in some spots). Core thermocouple extension wires spliced on, and wires run along top of core to the back.

Pipefitters continue with backup pump installation on evening shift.

Absorber - lowered & staged 5 Blu Blks. Set 4 of the 1" top steel plates which bridge across core. Top layers from here on will be installed step-wise, upstream to downstream.

Fork truck test used some shaft time. Plane 54 not lowered before the end of the day.

Absorber - lowered & staged 4 Blu Blks. Set large filler plate which fills the gap between the steel portion of the core and the 1" top plates. Set remaining 1" top plates.

Fork Truck fails its final test.  Removed from underground.

Absorber - lowered & staged 4 Blu Blks. Grout along outer edges of 1" top plate. Set 1st top layer Blu Blks at upstream end, and measured space left to the ceiling - just barely enough for roof steel.

Part of the underground ventilation system goes down. Work continues, but everyone must carry emergency air packs.

Begin installing coil supports along the side and on the downstream-most plane.

A problem with surface pumps causes the MINOS retention pond to overfill, and water backflows down the shaft. Resulting waterfall causes shaft rigging operations to halt by noon. Backup pumps installed to lower pond level until faulty pumps are repaired.

Only 2 Planes installed, cabled and light-leak checked, due to waterfall: 42, 41.

Absorber - lowered & staged 4 roof steel blks. Set 3 top layer Blu Blks; 16 of a total of 24 in place.

Pond level lowered.  Shaft waterfall is gone.
